Inspiring Story from Kenya

One of the disciples here in Nairobi astonished everyone after he decided to donate one of his kidneys to a total stranger who had appeared on the media requesting for assistance. It was a desperate need for this lady who had already had another transplant a couple of years ago but failed due to an infection that destroyed the donated kidney. Given that the situation was a matter of life and death, our brother saw the need to step forward and attempt to give the recipient of one of his kidneys another chance to live at absolutely no change.

Fred Arogo, a certified accountant and a single brother in church, made this decision after reading the story of Nelly in one of the national newspapers here in Kenya and was filled with such a profound sense of responsibility to help. However, from the onset, he was fully cognizant of the challenges going to accompany his decision. No sooner had he declared his decision to go ahead with the compatibility tests required before the actual donation, than many of his friends at work and some relatives started to discourage and oppose his decision. Nothing could deter him from responding to this glorious call to help. As his friends and spiritual advisors we got involved by severally talking to him to ensure this was not just emotional but a well-thought-out decision that also completely involved God – seemed set to go all the way with his decision. His conviction all along was based on Acts 3:16, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you.”

The kidney transplant, which was done in India, went well and both the donor and the recipient have since recovered and going about their daily lives normally. We earnestly pray that Fred will continue enjoying good health and a blessed life.
